III Sustainable Cities Conference and Expo

More municipalities, sustainable development professionals and people interested in water retention were introduced to the nature-based managed aquifer recharge (NaBa-MAR®) innovation developed by the ELTE József and Erzsébet Tóth Hydrogeology Chair research group at the 3rd Sustainable Cities Conference and Expo, which took place at the UP Rendezvénytér in Budapest, 10-11 October 2024.

This year’s key themes of the national event included municipal water management, sustainable transport, renewable energy production and the circular economy. The conference featured presentations and panel discussions on these aspects of sustainability. At the Expo on the following day, visitors had the opportunity to meet representatives of exhibiting companies and professional organisations. Imola Koszta and Soma Oláh, representing ELTE, presented the innovative NaBa-MAR® invention to the audience in an informal setting at the invention stand and in a professional lecture.

The methodology is a complex groundwater recharge solution based on the knowledge of groundwater flow systems and the resulting opportunities. The research team has developed the methodology as a result of decades of scientific work, which extends the applicability of managed aquifer recharge from local to municipal and landscape scales, based on knowledge of groundwater flows.
