Ábel Markó Successfully Defended His PhD Thesis with Highest Distinction

The József and Erzsébet Tóth Hydrogeology Chair is proud to announce that our researcher, Ábel Markó, successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on June 18, 2025, at the Faculty of Science, Eötvös Loránd University. His thesis, titled “Evaluating the ‘Geothermal Reinjection Potential’ into Siliciclastic Aquifers Demonstrated in Hungarian Sedimentary Environments”, received a summa cum laude distinction.

The dissertation introduces a novel, multiscale framework for assessing geothermal reinjection potential, with case studies from the Zala and Békés sub-basins of the Pannonian Basin. Ábel’s work provides new scientific tools and decision-support methodologies for evaluating geological risks and optimizing reinjection strategies in sedimentary geothermal systems.

The research was supervised by Professor Judit Mádl-Szőnyi, head of the Hydrogeology Chair.

We warmly congratulate Ábel on this outstanding achievement and wish him continued success in his scientific career!
