DG REGIO Media Trip in Hungary: Water Retention and the Homokhátság Region in Focus

The European Commission’s Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) held its media trip programme for representatives of national and local media in Hungary between 11 and 13 November 2025. The programme showcased climate adaptation practices linked to EU cohesion policy, through the lens of green and blue infrastructure measures.

During the programme, good practices were presented in Szeged and at several rural locations, followed by a final day in Kecskemét, where urban examples were reviewed and a roundtable discussion was held.

Participants in the professional discussion entitled “Water Retention, with a Particular Focus on the Homokhátság Region” included, among others, László Koncsos (BME), Csaba Tölgyesi (SZTE), József Gacsályi (OVF), Dalma Dedák (WWF), Róbert Bán (DPMG Zrt.), as well as other invited experts. Our colleague Szilvia Simon also took part in the roundtable, contributing to the professional interpretation of water retention solutions and regional water management challenges, with particular attention to adaptation issues affecting the Homokhátság region.

Participation in the event was supported by project RRF-2.3.1-21-2022-00014, entitled “Multidisciplinary National Laboratory for Climate Change.”
