Students’ success at the 52nd Meeting of Young Scientists

The Meeting of Young Scientists is a conference organized by the Youth Committee of the Association of Hungarian Geophysicists and the Youth Committee of the Hungarian Geological Society, which was held this year in Orosháza-Gyopárosfürdő between March 25-26.

At the event, geologists and geophysicists under the age of 35 could present their research in three different categories (theoretical, practical and poster). The event is unique because of the audience: participants come not only from academics but also from industries (e.g. representatives of oil companies and environmental protection companies). This year two PhD and an MSc student from the Hydrogeology Chair and Foundation presented their research at the Meeting.

Petra Baják (PhD student) won 1st place in the applied category with her presentation entitled “Joint application of groundwater mapping and environmental tracers to reveal the interconnection between groundwater and Lake Venice”.

Ábel Markó (PhD student) won the audience’s award and the award of the Hungarian Geological Society with his presentation entitled “The infinite borehole field model applied for shallow geothermal potential estimation in central Budapest”.

Bence Molnár (MSc student in geophysics) gave presentations both in theoretical and applied categories. The title of his presentation in the theoretical category is: “Fluid flow and heat transport in stochastic permeability models of groundwater flow”, while in the applied category he presented the research entitled “Radioactive spring waters? Natural radioactivity and rock-water interactions in the springs of Sopron Mountains”. He won 1st place in the theoretical category and got the award of MS Energy Solutions.

Congratulations on their success!
