Hungarian Science Festival 2022

The Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) hosted an event entitledJózsef Szabó born 200 years ago, the creator of domestic geology on November 9, 2022, as part of the Hungarian Science Celebration event. On the occasion of the bicentenary, the event presented the development trends of the main scientific fields of geology through the rich life journey of József Szabó. As part of the program, Dr. Judit Mádl-Szőnyi and Prof. Péter Szűcs (general and scientific vice-chancellor of the University of Miskolc, corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences) jointly held a presentation entitled “Make the invisible visible” – The challenges of the hydrogeology in the XXI century”.

In terms of water science, UNESCO and the affiliated organizations will direct their attention – according to the slogan in the title – to hydrogeology and groundwater in 2022. Throughout the year, professional and general public events related to hidden subsurface waters take place around the world and in our country. In this spirit, the two speakers focused on domestic challenges in line with sustainable development goals. They presented their latest research results through research on current issues of climate change, drought and sustainable energy exploration.

The entire lecture day was posted on the MTA’s YouTube channel. The presentation of Judit Mádl-Szőnyi and Prof. Dr. Péter Szűcs can be listened in Hungarian between 1:26 and 1:41 in the video.

In the framework of the program, Prof. Andrea Mindszenty and Prof. Harangi Szabolcs gave presentations as well on behalf of ELTE.
